Innovation in Wound Care
Versatile Polymer Platform
Versatile, Adaptable, and Multi-Functional
Our technology is a versatile polymer system tailored for use in diverse medical settings, including pre-hospital, emergency, and clinical environments. Initially conceived as a sprayable anti-microbial surgical incision drape, the unique properties and modifiable functionality have driven its development as a dynamic platform technology.
Antibacterial
The material properties of the polymer are being developed to kill bacteria on contact and prevent bacterial growth, through a robust mechanism not susceptible to antimicrobial resistance. Our technology utilizes a uniquely charged and functionalized surface, which can attract and then break up bacterial cells. This functionality is based on common existing bactericidal technology, but is being applied in a new way. This feature is inherent to the material itself, and does not rely on secreted chemicals or compounds to achieve this effect.
Hemostatic
The technology is being optimized to provide effective hemostasis, to quickly and effectively stop bleeds. Positively charged and hydrophobic elements in the material structure help to attract and adhere cells in blood. This helps establish a loose clot of blood components, which starts the natural clotting process.
Wound Healing
Our polymer is being developed as a robust wound dressing, that can assist and facilitate wound healing. By providing a durable, protective layer, that prevents exposure of the wound to bacteria and other pathogens, the polymer can support rapid, healthy healing of wounds.
Use Cases
The polymer can be delivered in a variety of form factors, including a gel which can be applied to traditional textile bandages.
It can also be applied as a sprayable liquid, which can uniformly cover large surface areas.
The sprayable format is useful for treating wounds in areas of complex anatomical geometry.
Our technology has been developed to be durable, and is not easily removed with water.
Caution: Investigational Device. Limited by United States Law to investigational use.
Benefits
The technology underlying our polymer system has many potential benefits to the fields of trauma and wound care.
Effective Hemostasis - The polymer can be quickly and easily deployed in a variety of forms, to rapidly address blood loss in traumatic wounds. This addresses a common urgent life threat, while also being intuitive and user friendly.
Protection from Bacteria - Wound infections can commonly occur in a variety of wounds. Protection from infection is not usually addressed when a more severe life threat such as bleeding is in play. Our technology integrates infection protection into the material itself, protecting wounds from bacteria without any additional work or thought.
Durability - Our polymer has been specifically formulated to stay in place, and not be inadvertently removed, even with the use of water. The material helps to stabilize the wound, and form a protective layer. When desired, the material can easily be removed with alcohol wipe.
Transformative Impact
Current products used to resolve bleeding or to prevent infection to wounds have many drawbacks associated with their properties and use. Primarily, preventing infection of traumatic wounds is usually a secondary priority. Prevention commonly involves the use of antibiotics, which is undesirable due to the need to prevent the emergence of antibiotic resistant strains of bacteria. Bleeding control products range in sophistication, with the most common intervention being application of pressure with simple gauze pads, or the use of a tourniquet. While these products are typically easy to use, they only address bleeding control and use case can be limited to wounds to extremities.
The polymer system will combine the advantages of the ease of use of current technology, with the sophistication of a biomaterial that addresses multiple concerns of traumatic wounds into a single application.
